How to Change Your WordPress Theme

Table of Contents

If you’re a website owner, you know how important it is to keep your website updated and running smoothly. One way of keeping your WordPress website up-to-date is by changing the theme every once in a while. Changing the theme can give your site a fresh look and feel, with new features that visitors will enjoy. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the steps needed to change your WordPress theme easily and efficiently.

Step 1 – Backup Your Website Before Changing Themes

Before you make any changes to your website, it’s always best practice to perform a backup first. This will ensure that if anything goes wrong during the process of changing themes, you are able to restore your backup and get back on track quickly. There are several plugins available for WordPress which can help with backing up your site, such as UpdraftPlus or BackupBuddy.

Step 2 – Choose Your New Theme

Once you have backed up your site, it’s time to choose a new theme! You can browse through thousands of free themes offered by WordPress in their official repository, or explore premium themes from other developers. Be sure to read reviews before buying a premium theme, and make sure that it has all the features and functionality required for your type of website. Once you have chosen a theme, download it from the source (official repository or third-party developer) and save it on your computer.

Step 3 – Install & Activate The New Theme

Now that you have downloaded the new theme file onto your computer, you need to upload it into WordPress so that you can activate it on your site. To do this, go to Appearance > Themes in your dashboard menu, then click “Add New” at the top of the page. On this page, click “Upload Theme” then select the downloaded file from Step 2 and install it into WordPress using FTP or via File Manager (if available). Once installed successfully, click “Activate” on the same page and follow any instructions provided by the developer (if any).

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully changed themes on your WordPress site! As we have discussed in this post, there are three simple steps required for changing themes—backing up first; choosing & downloading an appropriate theme; installing & activating the new theme—and now that these steps are complete, you should be able to see a brand new look on your website! If you want more control over how everything looks and functions on your site after changing themes, don’t forget to go through each page of settings options provided by WordPress as they may vary depending on which theme you choose. Good luck!
