How to Remove the Sidebar in WordPress

Table of Contents

If you have a website built with WordPress, you may find that it includes a sidebar. The sidebar can be used to display widgets like search bars, categories, and tags, but it can also take up valuable space on your pages. In this blog post, we’ll look at how to get rid of the sidebar so you can customize your website’s design and layout.

Removing the Sidebar from Your Pages

The first step is to identify which pages or posts you don’t want the sidebar to appear on. Once you’ve done that, you need to go into the WordPress Dashboard and choose “Appearance -> Editor” from the menu. You should then select “Page Template” from the list of files on the right side of your screen. This will open up a template file in which you can make changes.

In this file, find the code that reads “” and delete it. This will remove any existing sidebar content from your page template. Now that you have removed the code, save your changes and then select “Pages -> All Pages” from the Dashboard menu. Select each page where you would like to remove the sidebar and click “Edit Page Template” under “Page Attributes” on each page edit screen (you may have to scroll down). On each page edit screen select “Full Width Template” from the drop-down menu next to “Template:” near bottom of screen and click Update/Publish button for each page edited.

This will remove any existing sidebars from those pages or posts – if any were present before – and replace them with full width content areas instead. You can now add text or images directly onto these pages without worrying about leaving room for a sidebar!

Conclusion

Removing a sidebar in WordPress is easy once you know how! All it takes is access to your website’s dashboard and a little bit of code editing knowledge — both of which are relatively simple if you take some time to learn them. By following these steps outlined above, website owners will be able to customize their site design by removing unwanted sidebars quickly and easily! With just a few clicks of a mouse button — plus some strategic code editing — visitors coming to your site should enjoy an improved user experience with more streamlined layouts tailored specifically for their needs! Good luck!
